Honor Flight Blankets 2021

Currently, we are asking our members to make patriotic lap quilts for the Hudson Valley Honor Flight Chapter.  They will be resuming their flights to Washington, D.C. in October 2021.

An Honor flight lap quilt should be approximately 36X36 (no larger than 40X40).  Patriotic colors are the most appreciated.  If you wish to make one of these for a veteran, please have it completed by mid-September.

Janice McAllister from Gino Merli Veteran's Center contacted us and requested that we make a quilt that they can raffle in conjunction with Rolling Thunder's 13th Annual Veteran's Memorial ride. We decided on a pattern called American Sweetheart, designed by Gerri Robinson. Fabrics were gathered, cut, stitched and assembled by members of the guild. Special thanks to Karen Batalin for her reds, Linda Edwards for the border fabric, backing from the Golden Hands magic closet and donations
from other members. Linda Pinto, Lorrie Maringo,  Georgy Soojian, Marie Sandauer, Cathy Teitsma, and Jane Kroener pieced, and Marie Sandauer assembled the blocks. Special thanks to Reggie Kirkwood for quilting and Jane Kroener for binding. The resulting quilt is a mixture of hearts and stars and is sure to please any fan of Americana. The quilt was delivered in July and Janice has promised she will let us know how much money they raise off the raffle. The money will go to the veteran's fund which is used to finance activities for the resident patients.

(My apologies to anyone who assisted that I may have forgotten.)
