Workshop by John M. Kubiniec “Dish It Up: Dresden Plate Blocks”, 9am to 3pm, Delaware Township Building 116 Wilson Hill Road, Dingmans Ferry Cost of workshop: $25 for members, $30 for nonmembers
Dresden Plates have always been a popular block. Explore how to create the traditional block as well as new and creative ways to work with the traditional block. Explore different blade sizes, overlapping blocks, and different ways to finish the center. Learn different ways to attach the plate to your background fabric (hand applique, hand embroidery, machine applique, decorative stitches on your sewing machine). This is a design and technique class – you will leave with several Dresden Plate blocks that you can turn into pillows, table runners or incorporate into a quilt.
Supplies: Sewing machine in good working order, new needle, scissors, neutral thread for piecing, matching and contrasting threads to match your fabrics, embroidery floss, marking tools, seem ripper, rotary cutter mat, 6” x 24” rotary cutting ruler, any size Dresden Plate Ruler.
Fabrics: Scraps that are at least 3” x 6” of different values (light, medium, dark – solids, fine prints and tonals work best) Background fabric: solid or tonal that reads as solid. Should contrast with your scraps. If you are unsure, bring a few to try. Size: at least 14” x 14”
